FIOS
FIOS represents the next evolution if digital communications. FIOS is an acronym for Fiber Optic Services and enables high speed data access for business and residential customers. When compared to existing dial up or DSL FIOS offers a considerable improvement in both quality and speed. Typically providing speeds in excess of 5 Mbps, most customers are extremely satisfied with new service.
The telecommunications company Verizon was the first to pioneer the service in Texas. Technicians are installing fiber optic trunk lines in cities across the United States. It's available in over 20 states with new states continually being added.
For a typical FIOS installation a fiber optic trunk line will be connected via underground cable. The house will then be wired with category 5 network cable for voice and data communications. FIOS services are continually being enhanced and expanded making this a technology that is truly on the leading edge of the telecommunications industry.
