VOIP Internet Calling
VOIP internet Calling is the most significant change to come to the telecommunications industry since the development of wireless and cellular communications. In fact many businesses feel that this is going to revolutionize the way we communicate and change the industry forever. Many industry experts predict that by 2015 VOIP communications will dominate the industry. This type of change and development has caught the interest of the investment community, who is spending large amounts of money to finance infrastructure development. Let's have a more in depth look at what VOIP calling is and how it works.
For a traditional call you are using what is known as a Public Switched Telephone Network or PSTN. What happens is your call occupies the wire from your phone to a "switch". This switch then connects you to another switch or series of switches and eventually to the person you are calling. This is expensive as only one person can occupy a piece of copper wire at a time. Many companies started to invest in fiber optic wires for improvements. Fiber optics are cleaner, clearer, and allows more than one person to use a piece of cable at a time. With a VOIP call this efficiency takes a tremendous leap forward. Your Voice is translated into a digital signal. This signal is broken up into little "packets" of data. These packets contain the data, destination, and reassembly instructions. They travel across the internet at very high speeds, often taking different routes to get there. The signal is then re-assembled in the correct or and converted back into a voice signal.
Like fiber optic communications VOIP calls are clear and of very high quality. However from an economic viewpoint they are superior as there is no difference if the signal has to go 3 blocks, 300 miles or 3000 miles. When you compare VOIP calling to any other type of communications the advantages are clear.
